A day I’ll never forget and one that was extremely surreal, being on the set of The Tonight Show. It was one of the most amazing and yet stressful moments of my career. I was in the middle of buying my first house at the time and I had to get my signature to the lawyers by the end of the day or I was going to lose my deposit. This was before Smart Phones, so I was trying to fax things off and was running around The Tonight Show and was in their office asking if I could use their fax machine to send off my signature. After all that, when we were getting ready and warming up to go on stage, Jay Leno came into our dressing room to talk to us and totally put me at ease. He was really cool, just talking about remember the times of stand up and being in Vancouver and how much he loved it there. We’ve done other talk shows and the hosts didn’t bother to come and take the time to make small talk with us, so I thought this was really cool especially considering his status and how huge he was. The other people that were on the show that day were Jillian Barberie who is also a fellow Canadian, and David Spade (who I’ve been a big fan of ever since I saw first saw him on Saturday Night Live). After the show he came up, shook my hand, pointed at my pig tails and suggested I shave my entire head except the pig tails. That was the second sign of relief. Because through the entire performance all I could think of was, “Don’t screw up, don’t screw up, don’t screw up, this is live.” Little did we know that we were slightly out of tune the entire time. Oh well, whoever said rock n’ roll was pretty.
This is the car that Jay drove in that day, one of many cool cars he has in his collection. If you look close at the picture you can tell how stressed out I was on the phone.
